Artist Biography

Francesco Caccianiga was a painter and engraver, born at Milan in 1700 and studied at Balogna in the School of March Antonio Franceschini.

He later visited Rome where he established himself under the Patronage of Prince Borghese for whom he executed some considerable works in the Palazzo and the Villa Borghese.

His principal works are at Ancona where he painted several alter pieces and pictures for the churches and public buildings of which the most esteemed are -

"The Marriage of the Virgin"

"The Last Supper"

Some of his engravings are well known, one being "The Death of Lucretia" from a painting by himself.

His death occured in 1781.

When in Acona he painted "Die Einsetzung des Abendmahle" in der Chiesa dei Mercanti.

He painted for Kings and Cardinals and the First Marcantonia Borghese.

His best works are -

"The Last Supper"

"Death of Lukrezia"

"Picture of Aurora"

"Death Of Virginia"
